This message goes out to everyone who’s joined us in the past for our annual Memorial Day weekend camper/paddling trips based at Teeter’s campground near Albright WV -- and a few other folks I can think of who may want to join us this year.
The trip is posted on the BRV, CCA and MCC paddlers, and big crew of Keelhaulers and others always show up, and if past is prologue, there’ll be plenty of trip options each day.
As usual, our core group is mostly interested in class 2-3 trips within reasonable driving distance from Teeter’s (i.e. Cheat Forks to Stonycreek), but we expect there’ll be others who want to do harder stuff. Our Keelhauler friends and sundry other boaters usually show up looking to run the Cheat Canyon/Big Sandy.
Let’s hope for great weather and runnable options. In the past we’ve run trips on the Cheat Forks, Narrows and Canyon; Middle Fork Tygart above Audra, the Buckhannon, Casselman, Laurel Hill, North Fork Casselman, Stonycreek, Bloomington (releasing May 27-28), etc.
Courtney and I plan to head for Teeters Friday a.m. to set up camp for the weekend. I/we plan to stay and boat on Monday. I intend to check messages/return calls around 10 a.m. each morning to vector stragglers to put ins. Meals are catch-as-catch can, in camp or out. Court and I rig up some canopies and host a communal campfire.
We usually check gauges in the a.m., dither, and come up with targets between 9 and 10, but that’s about the extent of “organization” for this trip. But do let me know if you plan to come and we’ll give Teeter’s a rough head count. They usually reserve turf for us under the trees at the top of the lower lot.
