Trip Reports

Thursday Paddle - Staircase & GW Canal - April...
Author Last Post
We had 10 on the Staircase, with equally sunny and warm weather. Only carnage was a spill by a newcomer (at least, to me) while ferrying below Bull Falls; easily resolved. As advertised, White Horse was pumping - Ron S said my boat was 3/4 out of the water and in the air when cresting the biggest wave. Tim, you were probably wise to avoid it in an open boat.  Wayne

Geo Washington Canal - :We had five for the low octane trip today: myself, Dr Bob, Gus, Ursy, and Kathleen.   Warm and sunny.  Nothing untoward.  Put in at Riley's and took out @ Pennyfield.   Did see a bald eagle or two, cormorants, herons and a water snake.

Talked to a fellow in the crew building the new bridge at Pennyfield.  They will be at that for some time.  Won't pour the floor until next week.  And are only rebuilding it at 20' which isn't two lanes.  Tim

Only 10??

My guestimate was 20 on such a nice day and good water.

As I said, I have done Whitehorse at 6 on the Hancock gauge.  You really need to be paying attention.

I was surprise too. Usually this run gets good chunk of Maison Dixons. the leading ledges to white horse were washed out. I think doing that section in 4-5 ft will be much more fun and play.
